Floor Contraction and Expansion Joints
FLOOR CONTRACTION AND EXPANSION JOINTS
Arfen Industrial floor expansion joints are steel expansion joints that can be easily applied on industrial floors, minimize uncontrolled crack formation, and extend the service life of slab concrete that is resistant to heavy loads. They are produced as steel surface, hot-dip galvanized and stainless steel (SS 304 grade) as standard. It can also be produced with 316 quality stainless steel alternatives on floors exposed to aggressive solutions such as milk acids. They are shrinkage control joints whose vertical movement is minimized by load transfer plates and with a movement capacity of up to ± 20 mm in horizontal and longitudinal directions. Shrinkage control joints are placed in slab concrete to prevent random cracks. In order to ensure long-term use of the joints and high performance, care should be taken to ensure that the load transfer is carried out in a healthy way and that both sides of the joint remain at the same level. There are two ways to achieve this for vehicular traffic. Joints should be filled with suitable mastic-style materials and corners should be reinforced with steel plates. Where the joint needs to be cut in large slab flooring areas, back-to-back steel flats should be used on both sides of the joint to protect the edges of the joint. These two blades also determine the level of the slab concrete. If the joint gap is around 9 mm, the joint is filled with elastomeric mastics. If an opening larger than 9 mm occurs, the joints are filled with a semi-rigid epoxy-based or polyurea-based joint filler.
